Eating Complexity
Complexity is hard to deal with.
Simplicity is best.
Eating complexity means doing the challenging work behind the scenes so that others receive something clear. Creating value and understanding from what initially seems chaotic.
Complexity cannot be reduced, only offset. You absorb the difficult parts to produce something simpler.
Complexity can be offset with meaning.
-
Pattern recognition: finding meaning. Highlighting things that are important. Connecting things that are related.
-
Abstraction: creating meaning. Removing things that are not important.
Complexity is present either in the input or the process
-
Input: The data is hard to comprehend
-
Process: The process is skilled, laborious, risky or otherwise hard to complete.
